Technology
See clearly. Treat precisely.
Dr Smile Dental Care in Parel uses five pieces of equipment to diagnose and treat: RVG digital X-ray, OPG X-ray, Intraoral scanner, Rotary endodontics, Autoclave sterilisation. Digital X-rays are taken at the clinic, so diagnosis doesn't need a separate trip to a lab, and every instrument is sterilised in an autoclave. Here is what each one is, what it's like for you, and which treatments use it.
01 / 05
RVG digital X-ray
Small digital X-rays of one or a few teeth, viewed on screen at the chair.
What it is
RVG (radiovisiography) uses a small digital sensor in place of X-ray film. The image appears on a screen within seconds, so it can be enlarged and shown to you during the same visit. It's used to check decay, roots, infection and the progress of a root canal.
What it's like for you
A small, flat sensor is placed inside your mouth next to the tooth being checked, and you hold still for a moment while the image is taken. The picture appears on the screen at the chair within seconds.
Why it matters
- Decay between teeth, under old fillings and at the roots often can't be seen with the eye alone — an X-ray shows it.
- During a root canal it helps check the canals and the progress of the treatment, at the same visit.
- Because the image can be enlarged on screen, the dentist can point out exactly what she's seeing, and you can ask questions about it.
In short
You see what the dentist sees, and no waiting for film to be developed.
02 / 05
OPG X-ray
A single panoramic X-ray of all the teeth and both jaws.
What it is
An OPG (orthopantomogram) captures the upper and lower jaws, all the teeth and the surrounding bone in one wide image. It helps with planning braces, wisdom tooth removal, implants and full mouth treatment, where the whole picture matters.
What it's like for you
You stand or sit still at the machine with your chin on a rest while its arm moves slowly around your head for a short while. Nothing goes inside your mouth except a small bite piece to hold your teeth in position.
Why it matters
- It shows every tooth, both jaws and the surrounding bone in one image — including teeth that haven't come through, like impacted wisdom teeth.
- Planning braces, implants or a full mouth rebuild depends on the whole picture, not just one tooth.
- Having it at the clinic saves a separate trip to an imaging centre.
In short
The full view needed for planning, available at the clinic.

Intraoral scanner
A handheld camera that records a 3D digital model of your teeth.
What it is
An intraoral scanner is moved gently around the mouth to build an accurate 3D model of the teeth on screen. Where suitable, it is used in place of traditional impression putty for crowns, bridges and clear aligners.
What it's like for you
A slim handheld wand is moved gently around your teeth while it takes many pictures and stitches them into a 3D model on screen. You can breathe and swallow normally, and take a break whenever you need one.
Why it matters
- Where suitable, it replaces impression trays filled with putty — helpful if trays make you gag.
- Crowns, bridges and clear aligners are made from an accurate record of your teeth.
- You can see your own teeth in 3D on screen, which makes the plan easier to understand.
In short
No impression trays or putty in many cases, and a 3D model you can see.

Rotary endodontics
Motor-driven flexible files used to clean and shape root canals.
What it is
In rotary endodontics, flexible nickel-titanium files driven by a controlled motor clean and shape the canals inside the tooth during a root canal treatment. They follow the natural curve of the canal in a consistent, controlled way.
What it's like for you
Root canal treatment is done under local anaesthesia. The rotary files work inside the tooth; most patients feel pressure and vibration rather than pain, and you can signal to pause at any time.
Why it matters
- Flexible nickel-titanium files follow the natural curve of each canal.
- A motor-driven system cleans and shapes the canals in a consistent, controlled way.
- Well-cleaned and shaped canals are the foundation for sealing the tooth properly.
In short
Consistent, controlled cleaning and shaping of the canals.

Autoclave sterilisation
Instruments are sterilised with pressurised steam; the clinic is sanitised daily.
What it is
An autoclave sterilises dental instruments using steam under pressure, the standard method for reusable instruments. Alongside this, the clinic and treatment areas are sanitised every day.
What it's like for you
You won't see the autoclave at work, but you'll see the result: sterilised instruments at the chair, and a clinic that's sanitised every day.
Why it matters
- Steam under pressure is the standard method for sterilising reusable dental instruments.
- Every patient is treated with clean, sterilised instruments.
- It applies to every treatment at the clinic — from a routine cleaning to surgery.
In short
Clean, sterilised instruments for every patient.
Used for every treatment
Good to know
X-rays only when they're needed.
An X-ray is taken when it helps answer a real question about your teeth — not as a routine add-on. The type of X-ray depends on the question: an RVG image when the concern is one or a few teeth, an OPG when the whole mouth and both jaws need to be seen together.
If you are pregnant or might be, tell Dr. Pooja Jain before any X-ray so she can plan around it. And if you already have recent dental X-rays from elsewhere, bring them along to your visit.
Equipment is only one part of good dentistry. The other part is how it's used — read about Dr. Pooja Jain's approach and what happens at your visit.
A check-up that shows you everything.
Book a consultation with Dr. Pooja Jain. When an X-ray is needed, you'll see it on screen while she explains what she sees — and what your options are.
Mon–Sat, 10 AM–2 PM & 4–8 PM · Sun by appointment · Consultation ₹300 onwards
